This is technically not a hunting story, but it is an outdoors story, it involves animals, and it’s actually quite helpful for anyone considering solo and/or backcountry hunting. About 10 years ago, I put together some basic gear and set out on my first ever solo backpacking trip. I don’t know if I’ve ever been so scared in my life, but that trip also did something deep within me that has been undeniably transformational. My life and hunting style have changed in a hundred ways since then, but this trip started it all.
