This week, Callie talks to Laura Santurri, a board chair of the Interstitial Cystitis Association. Laura is an IC warrior of 25 years with a background in public health, and is passionate about patient education on managing chronic diseases, like interstitial cystitis. Laura discusses the importance of making decisions about our health care including taking into account your preferences and needs, the expertise of your interdisciplinary healthcare team, and the best evidenced-based data or research. Laura emphasizes that a provider and patient relationship should be open to communication, trustful, and makes you feel like your needs are heard, which has been shown to tremendously help with positive health outcomes! Callie and Laura also explain the difference between evidenced-based and non-evidence-based information on the internet, social media, support groups, and literature and how we can decipher what information is credible.
