Wanted to love this
3 stars bc I’m a Michael Hobbes stan, but I felt that the other host, Peter, wasn’t contributing anything. Also, is it fruitful to hear from another straight cis white guy who went to Harvard? In all honesty I’d rather Michael and Aubrey Gordon just host this podcast too, bc I can never get enough of the two, especially together. Or, alternatively, get someone who is idk indigenous and/or poc and/or queer and/or trans… anyone but this Peter square. Also the “freakonomics” whispered like “mind freak” bit was funny the first two times but absolutely cringe the third. I wanted to love this, and I truly gave this Peter man a chance, but I just found myself getting secondhand embarrassment bc anytime he talked it was just… mid. If it was an option to automatically fast forward anytime he spoke so I could just listen to Michael I would have 100%.

As a loyal listener of both You’re Wrong About and Maintenance Phase, I immediately tried Michael’s new show. I was not disappointed! Smart, witty, well researched, and hilarious as usual. A great first episode, looking forward to many more!

Once again, Michael Hobbes breaks down cultural influences, viral ideas and mainstream nonsense. This is very much in line with what I love about all of his work. The doctrinal throughline is this: True things are always messy and complicated and that’s okay.
