Yeah it’s liberal fluff and I like it that way
One of the main reasons I listen to this podcast is so that I don’t have to worry about the seriousness of what they’re discussing. I can read the Times or the Guardian if I want detailed and well-researched commentary on current events from an educated center left standpoint, and I would advise people listening to do the same, as I have been told the hosts exaggerate or misrepresent facts a lot, which doesn’t exactly seem unlikely. I’ve seen comments saying that the hosts are sexist and antisemitic, which I really don’t know about. I can’t speak on the antisemitism claims in the slightest (partly because I’ve never experienced antisemitism and partly because I don’t pay that much attention to episodes usually) but as a woman myself I’ve never felt that the podcast is in any way disrespectful to women, and often is self-aware of the hosts unawareness of issues that women face. That being said, I don’t pay complete attention to the episodes so I could be completely wrong on both counts. In terms of exaggerations or condescension on this show, yeah there’s probably some - I tend to just take everything with a grain of salt and move on with my day. Life is hard and sometimes all a girl wants is to hear that conservatives are dumb and wrong. It could totally be more empathetic. It could totally fact check better - it’s probably not going to and that’s kind of what I signed up for anyways. It’s also totally like fox for liberals, but I definitely understand why conservatives like fox (even though I can’t stand listening to it, which I assume is the experience of lots of people listening to this podcast) because life is hard for a lot of them too and sometimes all they want to hear is that liberals are dumb and wrong. In terms of substantive complaints, I have noticed a decrease in free content lately, and I beg of you podcast gods please feed me with your podcast liberal opinionated comedic fluff more than once every two months…I can’t pay for the extra content and I remember when episodes used to come out more often and I did enjoy that. I understand people need food on the table but I do like Mike and Peter in my ears when I’m eating my food on my table… Other than that this podcast is great if you feel an absence of the opinion that conservatives are dumb and wrong in your life. However if you feel that the amount of that opinion in your life is sufficient, probably best to steer clear.

Meh
Love both these guys and am a long time listener to their pods, but I was hoping for something new with this one and not just version 3.0 of the Michael Hobbes show. Which is an excellent show, don’t get me wrong. Was just kind of a waste of what Peter brings, imo.

I’m so happy to hear Michael’s new podcast. I’ve loved him in his previous You're Wrong About and Maintenance Phase podcasts. Bringing his knowledge on data to this new endeavour is insightful and entertaining.Read full review »
