Started out so intriguing but doesn’t develop
I’d give this between two and three stars actually. All the ingredients for a great story were there. But I agree with the other review that stated, “None of these characters sound real. They’re all caricatures of what someone thinks other people sound like,” and that’s kind of true. I wish the story had stuck to the narrator that is more fully fleshed out, because there is another narrator whose character trait is “awkwardly biased but doesn’t realize it,” and who doesn’t really have anything else going on. That makes every scene hit the same note. You always know what that character’s interactions are going to be in advance and it’s always something very obvious (and the same as before). So as an audience you don’t end up that intrigued by/drawn to that narrator and it also eliminates a lot of the element of surprise listening to them. The more sympathetic narrator is better but it felt like a lot was going on, but at the same time there were some issues with pacing/build up. The end also kind of feels like it petered out. This was my first time listening to a story podcast and there were things I wanted to like, but it just didn’t hook me in other ways. It was a fantastic setting and premise though.
