Saved me from my commute and gave me improv role models
About two months ago, I uprooted my life and moved to Toronto from Ohio. I had a new job, a new apartment and a new country to familiarize myself with. With the introduction of a new job and a new place to live, I discovered one of Toronto’s only low points, commuting. I live downtown and commute to a suburb totaling about 1.5-2 hours/day. It was then that I discovered podcasts and they have truly saved me from banging my head against the steering wheel every day. I then found Improvised Start Trek. I had done a couple years of Improv in college and being so close to Second City in Toronto, I decided to get back into it and take classes. I would wake up, drive (while listening), work (sometimes while listening), drive (while listening), exercise (while listening) and then go to bed with the occasional class or meal thrown in. I fell in love with the characters, and the performers and the editing and the fun that comes from doing longform improv and building a story. The quality of the improv is top notch and it’s very apparent that the cast has been working in the industry and together for a long time. During college, I had always really enjoyed performing longform and the opportunity came up to audition for the Longform Conservatory program here in Toronto with Second City and I threw my name into the hat. The days before my audition, I listened more and more to the podcast purely from an improviser’s lens. Looking at how they handled their environment, and character and story arc really helped me during the audition. It must have been fate that the day that I completely caught up with the podcast was also the day I was informed that I had been accepted into the program. I told myself after hearing Chris Rathjen and Nick Wagner ask for reviews on iTunes that once I caught up, I would write one to give a little something back for all of the entertainment and support that they provided me when I moved 500 miles away from home. I feel very connected to every person on the USS Sisyphus (my favorite being Ensign (lieutenant now?) Greg) and I can’t wait to see how they will continue to grow and change. Thank you all for everything that you do.

Boldly going where no improv group has gone before, Improvised Star Trek takes you to the far reaches of the galaxy--and hilarity. The crew of the USS Sisyphus is perhaps the most dysfunctional crew in the Federation, and because of it they are also the most lovable. Impossible quests, improbable...Read full review »

I stumbled into this after seeing the Klingon "Kiss Me" cover linked on every single nerdy site that existed on the internet. Since then I've blown through about 40 episodes in a week, and I can't stop listening to the show and raving about it to my Picard-worshiping friends. ...Read full review »
