EX-Pat Los Angeleno with a Chicago Problem
Evan, I absolutely love your videos. I was born and raised in Los Angeles lived all over the valley. I saw my father‘s business, de Haas, Realty in Sun Valley become a neighborhood icon. I grew up with people asking if I knew Martin de Haas. It’d make me laugh, my dad was just one of those old fashion guys who made himself famous from nothing but advertising and being everywhere. He came from postwar Europe with nothing, and made himself a legend in his time. A man who saw John Wayne movies, and wanted to come to California to see the west. He himself was an LA icon in his day. he even made it to the valley relics museum. That would be a great place for you to do an episode. So much history of growing up in the valley and the time gone by now. Shortly before his death, they asked my dad for his signs to put his part of valley icon memorabilia. It meant a lot to him and us. Here you are carrying on the tradition of la iconography. I watch your videos. I learn stories about the places I lived in that I never knew My favorite, I think was the Sherman Oaks Galleria and the mini golf episode. Actually hard to distinguish which topics I love more. They’re all great. I spent most of my adult life in Chicago after adulthood and learned about that city like I was born there as well. Your videos get sent all over the country especially the Midwest and Chicago. I want my friends to see the places I grew up from the I eye of somebody who really gets it and loves it. You inspire me because I saw so much change in my city and I see you bring back its greatness. You’ve got a great way about you and know your work is loved. If you ever have interest, direct message me. My brother wrote the first book about Wyatt Earp in Los Angeles. It was a forgotten history of the old west, and how it actually ended right in Westwood California. He’s well written in the western community and lives in orange county. It could be a really cool episode to talk about the west side VA, the Westwood cemetery, and that whole neighborhood. It was all build up from the Civil War veterans who came west and the last adventure of the Earp brothers before they passed. I think people forget that California was part of the old west. The history is right there amongst them. The places still there for those you know where to look. Anyway, thank you for what you do. I can’t wait to listen to your podcast. Dirk de Haas, M.D.
