“I really, really like this podcast. It’s become one of my favorites, and it’s gotten me excited to learn about the natural world in a way that I haven’t been in a long time.
This podcast covers so many topics across the world of botany: from paleobotany, to conservation biology, to physiology, and population ecology. But it wouldn’t be nearly as effective if it didn’t feel so human. Matt does an awesome job interviewing scientists and people across many fields. You can really tell this is a labor of love. He always seems so genuine and well prepared, and asks questions that show that he’s fully engaged. It forces me to be an active listener, rather than a passive one, which is awesome.
As a biology post-undergrad, I’ve been looking for grad programs, and was beginning to get disillusioned with the world of research. This podcast has gotten me excited about it again, and it’s really encouraging that the people he interviews are so willing to engage and communicate with people. This is exactly the kind of science communication that I love, and it’s awesome that it feels so personal. And plants are very much at the center of the story for this podcast, which ironically makes it stand out from a lot of other online plant-focused material.
I’d definitely recommend this podcast to anybody who’s into plants, science, or just wants to hear a really good conversation.
Thank you Matt (and everybody you interview) for being awesome.”
