Risk of losing institutional expertise
Great topic for an intelligent balanced discussion. As I understand, an important critique of how the US ended up with over 500k troops in Vietnam in 1968 in a practical stalemate was the purge of the State Department during the McCarthy red scare period of late 1940’s-early 1950’s. The lack of institutional expertise in IndoChina at the Star Department prevented the ability to potentially limit/avoid the mistake that was the Vietnam Wor which cost nearly 60k US lives

More reviews of In the Room with Peter Bergen
A wealth of information. Peter is brilliant and going “in the room” with Peter is a great way to go straight to the source and get even-handed information. I wait for the alert for the next pod cast release.
