“This review is going on the newest show as I’m afraid it won’t get read on any other podcast.
Parcast’s quality has decreased immensely in the last year. I have been an avid listener since 2016 and the quality of the episodes then were so much better.
Before this year, advertisements that didn’t completely remove you from your listening experience. I used to listen to the ads, and resume the show like usual. Now the ads are literally so distracting and it’s incredibly frustrating that I have to stop what I’m doing and skip through two or three whole minutes of ads. 10% of the content anymore is just ads. I now have a strict rule that any product I listen to an ad for, I will not engage with. If a company deems itself so important that it wants to ruin my experience of something else, I won’t be a patron of that company.
Secondly, the quality is sad. The new podcasts are Spotify exclusive and I believe Parcast is losing a majority of their listening base. I listen on Apple podcasts, and frankly I don’t think it would be worth my money to switch to Spotify. The episodes are shorter, filled with more ads, hosts that don’t draw the same lure that hosts like say Carter and Wenndy. The topics are also so niche and specific that I can’t fathom they would be remotely interesting. Shows like “Dog Tales” “Medical Murders” are so specific and lacking of the entertaining factor that shows like “Unsolved Murders” and “Cults” have.
Third, the genre of this network has completely changed, and arguably not for the better. How does “Mama Knows Best” fit in with any other show? Bringing on Ashley Flowers made sense, even if her style of hosting is widely different than the original Parcast hosts, but now some of these new hosts are clearly not here for the benefit of the original Parcast listeners.
Fourth, shows are seeming to be discontinued. I used to listen to five or six shows, but now some aren’t updated but maybe twice a month and if they are they have the same content from another show. There’s too much crossover between shows. Serial Killers, Crimes of Passion, Solved Murders, and Medical Murders could all theoretically have the same episode. I’ve seen Jack the Ripper and Ted Bundy on more than one show. I think that needs to be an indication that there are too many shows that are similar and the content is lacking.
All in all, Parcast shows hold a nostalgic bit of my heart. However, I don’t think I’ll be listening to new shows simply out of protest for the exorbitant changes. And as soon as the old episodes’ ads are too much and too distracting for me, I think I’ll be done with Parcast.”
