For Lovers of ALL Music Genres
The name “Indiecast” might fool you into believing that this might be a podcast hosted by pretentious sophisti-nerds enshrining only the most obscure artists on an unnecessary pedestal, but really this is a podcast for music lovers of all genres. Indie music is a focus for many episodes, but there’s a good chance that these are artists you’d have anywhere from a passing interest or significant investment in—Arcade Fire, St. Vincent, Animal Collective; you know, the big-name indie darlings. Often the episodes focus on landmark classics, very much NOT indie in terms of popularity, such as Kid A or Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, describing history, impact, and personal connections to such musical zeitgeist. And if underground music does become a focus, it’s to cast a spotlight on underrated artists and albums that truly do deserve some attention, not just hipsterism for hipsterism’s sake. Above all, Steve and Ian are two great hosts with a natural chemistry that’s highly enjoyable to listen to. They speak eloquently and their enthusiasm for music of all genres is infectious enough for me to type the artist’s name in Spotify and add them to the queue. If you’re looking for some great new music to listen to, or nerd out in eternal music love with two music-loving geeks, then definitely check Indiecast out.

I work in music and have very little brain space to think about music in my spare time, but Steve and Ian are top notch. I appreciate their takes even when I occasionally disagree.

Steven and Ian bring a great mix of discussions on trending indie topics, new artists worth checking out, and historical knowledge of the indie scene to place everything in context.
