“Two smarmy hosts talk over each other (and regular guests) while engaged in masturbatory discussions about Star Trek the original series. Purported to be a celebration of all-things-Trek, Inglorious Trekspert hosts Mark, and (especially) Daren disparage almost everything after their beloved original series while openly declaring that they have not watched much else. There are facinating episodes (ie: big name guests with lovely stories) (thus my second star). There are excruciating episodes (ie: listen to them play trivia on open mics, listen to their top 50 countdowns, listen to them discuss the toy and comic book franchise). And through it all, these two think they are incredibly charming and funny while they fringe their way through topics pertaining to DS9, seldom-but-scathingly mentioned Voyager, Enterprise and newer film and streaming iterations of Star Trek.
Toxic fandom begins and ends with gatekeepers of a franchise fandom that deem portions of said franchise unworthy and unwatchable. Look no further than this pair of turds posing as affable and welcoming curators. The original series is wonderful without question. It started it all. It is deserving of love and devotion, but this podcast sees no merit in anything beyond it. Inglorious Treksperts is routinely disappointing and frustrating to listen to if you are a fan of all of the shows under the franchise umbrella. I was excited to find this podcast, and that excitement is gone.”
