Horrid
Listened to today’s episode about Prince Harry’s new book and was appalled by the ignorance of not only the host but the “guests” from something called Royally Obsessed. They were unable to articulate that the focus on the media was centered on those organizations that engage in illegal acts such as phone tapping and that his target is the British tabloid media’s racially slanted reporting in their coverage of Meghan Markle compared to similar stories about Kate Middleton. He clearly articulated that within the UK the British tabloids that engage in these practices are the top read newspapers and that by engaging in those behaviors they wield great influence over what the British public reads. There is also zero mention of the allegations that Buckingham Palace traded negative “an anonymous palace source” stories about he and Meghan to bury stories about other members of the royal family being printed. It’s one thing if you’re going to have a general, vapid conversation about the royals and not mention this stuff, but when you’re representing the episode as specific discussion of the book by two people who market themselves as “royal experts” it’s completely irresponsible. Not sure if the ladies discussing the book lack basic reading comprehension skills or if they have some other agenda they’re pushing, but comments implying they could just go away and everyone would leave them alone and it’s somehow their fault because they chose to try and share their side of what they experienced are just moronic. Oh and who on earth who “specializes” in the royal family thinks it’s unlikely that Prince Harry could quote Shakespeare and other prominent authors in the text so “it must have been put in by the ghostwriter”??? Look at any public figure who attended Eton (Tom Hiddleston, etc) and they speak at length in interviews about the focus on studying Shakespeare at Eton and other private schools in Britain because he is considered Britain’s greatest author. The mindless conjecture and lack of thought when discussing this book is absolutely astonishing. So grateful to have heard this episode as it showed me that if they did such a crappy job on this they’ve probably done the same crappy job on all the other episodes I’ve listened to…I just didn’t know enough about the subject they were discussing to realize it. Absolute morons.

I loved Sam Sanders on his last show, but I thought the format never did him justice. This show, which gives topics room to breathe, and it pays off. By taking pop culture seriously, Sam allows his guest to discover the big picture behind their analysis. This show is an absolute gem.
