Commercial Fishing in the ocean…
I just listened to episode 7 where you guys talk about Washington’s ban on fishing from a boat on the OP. As someone who lives on a SW WA winter steelhead river I bare witness to the effects a volcano, logging, fishing and climate change have on a system. I’d be curious to know if there are any studies that look at the effects of ocean commercial fishing in BC and how many WA/OR salmon and steelhead they catch either intentionally or unintentionally? My understanding is that many of the OP and Columbia River fish migrate north. It seems impossible to me that commercial fisheries would be to target specific fish runs and only harvest “Canadian” fish or “American” fish, respectfully. Enjoy your podcasts April! And appreciate Bob Hootons experience and perspective.

It’s so refreshing to listen to a discussion by experts who are driven by scientific inquiry rather than simply arguing on behalf of one side or the other.
