“Thank you Mark and Shoni, for the continual variety of topics and often complex subjects, which you discuss with a natural professionalism, coupled with a warm and funny flair in your personalities that doesn’t cheapen the experience or make some difficult themes hard to fit into the real world.
I became a Morningstar Premium member early last year (not COVID-related lol) but out of a sheer passion and drive to build something more for my son and I as a single dad. I was delighted to start listening to your very first episodes and found extremely refreshing your topics covered and explained in digestible terms, humour and most importantly experience and knowledge as individual investors and industry professionals.
Together with the fantastic content on Morningstar Premium, and other resources, personally it’s been really empowering in actually taking the first step and importantly again; hanging in there. A lot of reading, listening, observing and then more research and plenty of early mornings and late nights, and with a lot of prayer :) , you’ve helped my son and I to start with $20k and in the last two years grow that 18x. Whilst that will not be the case perhaps every year or period, I am truly thankful for your cumulative resource to get me started and past the struggle of understanding what is truly valuable, in valuing a company.
I love the banter and dare I say, that little je ne sais quoi between you two ;) ….thanks for joining me on Sunday long-breakfasts and otherwise mundane car trips.
For the record, Mark, you are a doyen of investing, so even if your own mum is Shoni’s biggest fan, you have one in me at least out there, maybe in so much as I share your old man humour too at the ripe old age of 38… guess we’ve had a good run then!
Shoni thank you for your very thorough research and rundown of the themes, and of course keeping Mark on his toes (and out of his walking frame ?). Mark’s summarising in digestible bites gives a joint approach that is polished and covers the spectrum so any investor can glean something to take away.
Keep the topics coming, perhaps a future session could cover some of the key valuation measures or metrics used and how each/together relate. I know these were hard for me to get my head around at the outset!”
