“I absolutely love this podcast (thus my 5-star review). I was incredibly disappointed by the way Carly’s clear mental health issues were seemingly dismissed by the courts. For 1) a diagnosis of bipolar does not always strictly follow what is outlined in the DSM-5, there is a concept of mixed episodes where a bipolar person can rapidly cycle through mania and depression and 2) the prosecution all but admitted that Carly was more likely to have a diagnosis of borderline based on her description of disassociation (which please tell me you can hold a child accountable for “accurately” describing your interpretation of disassociation), rapid mood swings, and self harm behavior. I am glad you shared this story bc it sheds light on how overlooked mental health is in this country. I just wish there had been more thought into the commentary around the prosecutions testimony on Carly’s mental health.”
