On this episode, I spoke to costume designer April Napier about her work on Todd Haynes’ May December, starring Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore.
Napier’s past credits include films such as Kelly Reichardt’s Showing Up, starring Michelle Williams, and Certain Women, starring Laura Dern, Michelle Williams, Kristen Stewart and Lily Gladstone, Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart, Mike Mills’ Thumbsucker and A24’s First Cow, which she received several critics award nominations for Best Costume Design. She was also the costume designer on Apple TV’s crime dramedy series High Desert, starring Patricia Arquette.

Napier received the Costume Designers Guild Award for ‘Excellence in Short Form Design’ for her work on Apple’s short film, The Stunt Double.
In 2018, Napier was nominated for the CDG Award for ‘Excellence in Contemporary Film’ for her designs on Greta Gerwig's A24 dramedy, Lady Bird.
In 2024, Napier was nominated for the CDG Award for ‘Excellence in Contemporary Film’ for her designs on Todd Haynes’ Netflix drama May December
