Makes me feel closer to India again.
Hi Kalki, big fan of your work and what you represent on and off the screen. Absolutely love this podcast and the stories told on here. I actually stumbled upon the preview that BBC news service show, the Inquiry, posted about your show. After I heard you speak about the show and what it was going to cover, I instantly added it to my list of shows. Since then, your podcast is the one I begin my week with, listening to it on my way to work. I have been living in Canada for the past 5 years and haven’t got time to visit India so kinda started feeling drifted away and disconnected, but this show makes me feel Indian again. Also, the tune that plays during the transition, ohhh my. Melts my heart every time. I can’t talk about others and I certainly don’t represent other Indians living abroad but I personally have been hearing the horror stories happening in India especially in regards to women’s treatment and It’s just painful. My friends from around the world who have visited India speak about how much they loved their time in India and how much fun they had getting to know the culture. Although, at the end they also tell me about their bad experiences, especially women, regarding harassment, groping, cat calling etc etc. and that’s just painful. We need to change that everywhere in the world but India has a longer way to go. But I am hopeful because of women like Kalki, Malika and several other strong women out there. This podcast was so powerful, and more powerful is Malika’s story and her work. I wanted to highlight the words that Malika says in the podcast that when walking alone in the dark on the streets, men fear getting mugged, while women fear a lot more than that. This is just painfully wrong. I, as a man, can never truely know what women go through hence I should never be the one to tell them what is right or wrong. But to the men I tell you this one simple thing. Stop talking and start listening. I can’t wait for the next episode and next amazing story.

More reviews of Kalki Presents: My Indian Life
I’m a white woman living in Denver, Colorado, USA...and I just started listening to this podcast. As far away as where the topics & stories are occurring, she makes it easy and relatable, as well as touching on very human issues! Thanks BBC and Kalki!
