Hochreiter's xLSTM paper was eagerly awaited. Now it is here. Quote: "We have enhanced LSTM to xLSTM by exponential gating with memory mixing and a new memory structure. xLSTM models perform favorably on language modeling when compared to state-of-the-art methods like Transformers and State Space Models. The scaling laws indicate that larger xLSTM models will be serious competitors to current Large Language Models that are built with the Transformer technology. xLSTM has the potential to...

Fabian Bause was actually very sceptical at our AI in the Forest event, which was all about AutoML. Then he called us a few weeks ago and we were surprised. Beckhoff offers its customers and also non-Beckhoff users an AutoML tool. The automation company is thus breaking new ground. Has he changed his mind? And if so, why? Fabian explains it to us.

We can't give anything away yet, but anyone who was at our AI in the Forest event will remember. You'll have to be patient until Monday. See you at the fair.

Silo AI and TurkuNLP are developing a family of multilingual open source LLMs with the aim of strengthening Europe's digital sovereignty and democratising access to LLMs. Developing baseline models that are in line with European values is crucial to this effort to ensure that they are based on data and information that accurately represents the different languages, citizens, organisations and cultural landscape of the European Union. This approach is not only in line with European values, but...

AINode is the third internal node after ConfigNode and DataNode in Apache IoTDB. This node extends the capability of IoTDB to perform machine learning analysis on time series data by interacting with the DataNode and ConfigNode clusters. AINode allows the integration of existing machine learning models by registering them and executing time series analysis tasks through simple SQL statements on specified time series data. This seamlessly combines model creation, management, and inference...

In his group they conduct research to create intelligent systems, which can work autonomously and in collaboration with humans to increase the safety, reliability, and productivity of industrial plants and processes. For this purpose, they leverage process modelling, model predictive control, optimization, and machine learning.

Jens Wonneberger is the CISO of automotive supplier Mann+Hummel. He explains to us what rules the company has set itself when it comes to GenAI and LLMs. Jens Wonneberger is a big AI advocate, but we've never had a CISO on the Industrial AI Podcast. But the Mann+Hummel rules can certainly help other companies too. In the news section, we talk about BCW24 and one of the highlights was the announcement that Landing AI is a new partner of the crtlX ecosystem. But we also talk about Harting's...

Johannes Brandstetter is leading a group “AI for data-driven simulations” at the Institute for Machine Learning at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz. Additionally, he is a Head of Research (AI4Simulation) at NXAI - the new European AI hub in Linz (Austria). Quote: I am firmly convinced that AI is on the cusp of disrupting simulations at industry-scale. Every day thousands and thousands of compute hours are spent on turbulence modeling, simulations of fluid or air flows, heat transfer...

As things stand today: "We have to scale. We first test on small data sets, then on medium-sized sets and finally on the very large sets," explains Hochreiter. The XLSTM technology performs "very well" on the small and medium-sized data sets. You have to beat all models on the market, says Linz. Over 1,000 GPUs around the world are currently computing the development from Upper Austria. The time horizon is ambitious: The tests on the smaller and medium-sized data sets should be completed by...

For sure, Microsoft is interested in providing European companies with AI models. But Xiaopeng has good arguments. In this expanded role, he leads the business growth and go-to-market across AI services (e.g. Azure OpenAI), databases (e.g. Azure Cosmos DB), containers (e.g. Azure Kubernetes Service) and serverless (e.g. Azure Functions).

With TwinCAT Chat, the so-called Large Language Models, such as ChatGPT from OpenAI, can be conveniently used for the development of a TwinCAT project. This increases productivity in control programming. But: Beckhoff does not only rely on OpenAI. Other OS LLMs are also used.
