Mother, therapist, author of Midwifery for the Soul, guide and birth expert, Jennifer Summerfeldt is joining me to talk about birth trauma. Personally, I was fortunate to know, learn, and work with Jen before I had my son. I knew too much about medicalized birth and wasn’t willing to risk my only pregnancy and birth to the medical system that promotes the need for women to be protected and saved from birth. In this interview we will discuss the history of birth, why many people discover birth trauma from their own birth, and the birth of the children they had in the system. We will unpack these traumas, look at what if any are “natural” and where it’s used by design to compromise the caregiver and the newborn, how it has shaped our societies and relationships, and what’s required to heal from it.
