Episode 193: How Everyone Can Engage Art (A Theology of Art, Part 1)
Listen now
Description
"Every choice you make transforms you into someone else." - Dr. Shane Wood One of the things American Christians are most notoriously known for at the turn of the century was their cancel culture around non-Christian art. Parents kept their kids from reading and watching Harry Potter, youth groups hosted secular CD burning/breaking events, and the Southern Baptist Convention formally boycotted Disney from 1996-2005. If we were to learn from the example set by that generation, it would seem that the Christian response to art is to avoid it at all costs unless it is specifically "Christian" art, but if we were to look further back in history, we would see moments where Christians were persecuted and belittled by art as well as others where the church was the epicenter of the world's best art. In this episode, Trevor and Ryan sit down with local artist Jeremiah Jones to discuss how art can help all people, especially faithful Christians, with God. Join us next week for part 2 of this conversation!
