Helped me understand the appeal of Dark Tower
Steven King is one of those authors I have for a long time felt I should read, but never really got around to actually seriously reading. Especially for a series like Dark Tower, which was written over a span of 20+ years, I felt unsure over whether I would enjoy it or get engaged with it from the beginning. So it’s fortunate that Matt and Scott decided to do this podcast! The first episode really highlights why King and Dark Tower resonate with so many people. Matt and Scott both focus on small details of Kong’s writing that make it so engaging, but also zoom back to try to understand the larger picture. I think the format where Matt hasn’t read the work and Scott provides guidance, but not actual spoilers works well, especially since I’m in Matt’s position here, same as I was during We’ve Got Worm. I can’t really say how this podcast sounds to someone with experience with Dark Tower, although We’ve Got Worm definitely enhanced my appreciation of that series, since Matt and Scott have more time for reflection and analysis than most first-time readers. However, to people without past experience with King or the Dark Tower who want to understand the appeal of it all, I can say that I have come out of the first episode of the podcast determined to start reading Dark Tower and continue listening to Matt and Scott!

The passion put into the podcast reminded me of my favourite English courses in...Read full review »

I’ve never read multi-book fantasy series before. I happened upon the whole series when an extra copy of the series was sent to a family member who was unable to return it. (Ka?) I’m currently on book three. This podcast has been the best help in not only getting through writing I have never...Read full review »
