In a historic sweep, the Republicans led by former president Donald Trump won the elections, well defeating a historic candidate in Kamala Harris, a female South Asian and Black candidate – three historic firsts that once more eludes the American presidency.
What do these results mean for South Asian diaspora in the US, and the South Asian subcontinent? How do we make sense of this historic win for the right? How do we situate this win in the larger context of political shifts and turmoil in the world?
