“I am a delighted newcomer to the views of James Kunstler. He makes so much sense. Right now I am engrossed in The Long Emergency. I listen to podcast 33 on the bailout over and over. In the early 70s I lived near the Seattle ship canal and watched stuff for the Alaska pipeline pile up, stopped by activists. Then we had gasoline shortages. When gasoline flowed freely again so did the stuff for the pipeline. About 1975 I moved to Houston to learn there had been no gasoline shortage there. I have watched farmland turn into tract houseing, SUVs and trucks avoid emission standards, absurd boxes called parking structures and the wanton waste of petrolium by living too far from work. I have thought petroleum must be running out, but I have never encountered anyone who not only thinks about these things but has the data. His books are not luxuries; they are essentials. Thanks Duncan for bringing him to us.”
