“I liked the show but you didn’t cover the argument I made on Twitter on the energy council so I’m docking you 2 stars for the audacity, and because I think you’re wearing bitcoin goggles, but I get that it’s very politically/ideologically important to many.
For bitcoin to become the global asset/currency you want it to be, it needs to grow exponentially from here. That means the energy use also has to increase exponentially sans some incredible breakthrough (not counting strike, limited adoption, and does nothing to improve the layer one itself). The energy use is already way too much, and it’s only going to go up.
Whether we’ve got grass fed green bitcoin or not is irrelevant in my eyes. It’s taking that green energy away from the rest of the still-polluting economy, and crowding out renewable energy use in other sectors, slowing down the transition, which ruins everything down the road. This might be justifiable if it was just bitcoin vs fiats, but lbh that’s a super low bar, practically a straw man. It’s bitcoin vs the multitude of faster, more energy efficient, more secure gen 2 and 3 cryptos that exist today, and bitcoin just loses that on everything except for network effect. You don’t need to consume all of Holland’s electricity or more to run a scaled, secure distributed ledger, that’s been proven. This council is not only centralized garbo greed frogs, but their press statement to eventually green bitcoin (what I call cynical virtue signaling by people who deep down probably don’t even believe in climate change) is irrelevant! Fiat is a wheel, bitcoin is a horse, and the good gen 3 cryptos are sports cars. For a society to continue relying on the horse in the car age would have not only been folly, but irresponsibly dangerous, and the same principle applies here.
But I like the show. You should have some non-bitcoin crypto people on so you can debate, because they would make arguments a maxi wouldn’t consider, you would get activated, and I’m sure you’d have many insightful points to add. Conversations, not echo chambers, that’s the way.”
