“Interesting topic to be sure but a bit off the mark. When Fiji was colonised land alienation was forbidden which is why Fijians retained so much of their lands. This was largely because of what had happened in NZ despite the Treaty and etc with CMS missionaries fleecing their flocks, land wars and so forth. The Treaty came about partly because of the fate of Australian First Nations people, it was not a good look even at the time. So you can see a progression albeit paternalistic and far from benign.”
