The 90's are having a MOMENT right now. Tapping into that childhood nostalgia, your legal A-Team discusses the big legal question arising from the tragic death of Dustin Diamond who played "Screech" on the 90's sitcom "Saved by the Bell." The big question everyone wants to know the answer to? Was he, or was he not, married to Jennifer Misner? TMZ broke the story that despite the fact that Diamond and Misner publicly proclaimed they were married, though the couple separated (but not divorced!) later on, his death certificate listed him as "NEVER MARRIED." So - what was his status? Diamond and Misner may have been common law married. Why should you care? As a possibly common law married couple, this could give rise to a whole host of issues regarding how his estate may be divided up (in some states, the wife is typically entitled to half of hubby's assets he obtained after the couple married). In this episode, A&A breaks down the statute regarding common law marriage in Texas, and how you better be careful! Because once you're common law married, there is NO common law divorce.
