“OMG that’s quite a retelling of Lincoln’s views on Black people and slavery (Frederick Douglas was not so generous) and post Civil War America. The HUGE backlash against Reconstruction (which the Federal govt abandoned after 10 years) resulted in sharecropping, Jim Crow laws and apartheid, convict leasing, mass incarceration, relentless assassination of Black leaders and more. This election is about the Great Replacement- see Robert Pape on Amanpour & Co. The upheaval we are (once again!) in the middle of harkens back to the late 1800’s and the very long fight to keep some Americans enslaved for the benefit of others. Richardson’s essay sounded like pablum.”
