So far lacks diversity of opinion, scope of emotions in survivors
Having lived through the suicide of my son and then my husband in a six month period that also included seeing the deaths of two fathers-in-law at their bedside, I am overly familiar with sudden loss. I’ve become well read on suicide issues; I’ve gone through three counselors and four support groups. Dr. Ashton’s podcast certainly presents excellent information that is widely accepted. However, I am not seeing her capture the true complexity of emotion involved with suicide survivors. The concept of a new normal is prevalent in all suicide survivor materials. I sure wish someone could truly provide more concrete measures of what a new “normal” is. After 5 1/2 years I’m still looking for it and I haven’t found answers from others or from within. And while I understand things have to be paid for, I find the promotion of a specific counseling business embedded within this podcast to be inappropriate and almost predatory. Hopefully you will find some of the information helpful, but as with all suicide materials, often lacking some of the brutal facts about recovering from suicide and is presented within the context of the dominant, white, straight culture.

I truly cannot...Read full review »

Good but episode 2 erks me when the therapist comes and speaks on. What if suicide is from a chronic disease or terminal condition how is that not a fact? Suicide is not just mental illness. It can be from hopelessness of chronic pain or illness not a chemical imbalance.
