Rendering the Old Testament comprehensible
While looking for an educational audio series to help illuminate the Bible (as an important text of Western history, not from a religious angle), I came across this well-paced, even-handed and informational podcast. Mssr. Metzger has an amazing ability to synthesize the vast and seemingly impenetrable scope of the early Old Testament bible into a coherent document merging storytelling, philosophy, and history. I feel like I learned more on the Old Testament in these 10 episodes than in 10 years of Catholic school decades ago. I am now eagerly listening to the other episodes as well--this podcast will relight an interest and passion for ancient texts that remain relevant today, for those of us who have only dim recollections from our schooling years.

More reviews of Literature and History
This show has an enormous amount of educational content. It's serious and scholarly, but the host also makes literature really entertaining and accessible. Lots of good/absorbing background music, done just right, too. Check it out!

Even if you've taken university courses and read anthologies of these works, you'll be amazed by how much Doug adds with his own experiences, insights, and original(!) music compositions that are littered throughout. Wonderful podcast.Read full review »
