Erudition + warmth +++
I’ve only q recently discovered this podcast and have listened from the beginning and I’m blown away! Doug is so erudite and displays such passion for his subject and is SO good at conveying his knowledge to those who care to listen. On top of that he is also very humble and it’s clear that what matters to him is the subject, rather than his own aggrandisement or fame etc. I sometimes find his US pronunciation of words grates on my British ears and is a little bit annoying, lol. But hey, that’s nothing in the overall scheme of things... Keep going, Doug! Your work is exceptional and IMHO, a gift to humanity; given in what now seems to be a rare spirit of generosity and benevolence ❤️ And no adverts!!! Adds to the general amazing-ness of this podcast! If I’ve ever got the £ to subscribe to the extras for this pod, I surely will, because I’m sure they’re worth it! Or if I can donate even a little, as a one-off, I will because this quality of podcast is truly exceptional. *Edited to fix typos in the middle of my review because I’d had a couple of glasses of wine when I wrote it and it went a bit wrong 😂 Also wanted to add that: 1) I love the songs! 😂 2) I love the quizzes! (And realise that they did not write themselves. A fab, fun addition for quiz lovers ❤️) 3) From the marked absence of reviews I could see, I get the impression that this podcast is little known in the UK, which seems a shame. I will definitely try to encourage people to listen. Thanks, Doug from a fan in London 🇬🇧 ❤️

This is a great podcast. Mr Metzger manages to simultaneously entertain and educate, combining a zany sense of humour with in-depth textual interpretation, and an impressive knowledge of contemporary literature and of the historical significance of a series of canonical literary works.
