One of the enduring and arguably underappreciated aspects of music by The Beatles is how easily most of their catalog translates into jazz. There are a myriad of examples of this, one of my favorites happens to be Ben Paterson’s version of ‘Here, There and Everywhere’, which I encourage you to take a moment to look up.
Grammy winning drummer Paul Francis understands this as well and his 2022 release ‘All My Life’, and this week’s performance in support of it explores the melodic elasticity of the intersection of The Beatles and Jazz.
Featuring Chris Bacas on saxophone and flute, Andrew Hartman on guitar, Michael O’Brien on bass, and Paul Francis on drums and from a February 22nd, 2023 performance – it’s the Paul Francis Quartet Live at the Bop Stop.
