Superb podcast series
I’ve really enjoyed this podcast series. It’s been massively informative and thought provoking throughout. It’s helped to explain to me why religion is so important to so many people - how it reflects our greatest needs, fears and hopes, and has done so throughout the ages. It’s a tour de force, bringing us around the world from Newgrange, to Aztec pyramids, to the gigantic Kumbh Mela festival and so many places and cultures in between. You almost feel as if you are there. If I had a tiny niggle, it’s that the future of religion is not explored in detail: a statement is made at the end that no religion might imply the complete breakdown of communitarian life. This is a pretty strong statement that I would love to have seen developed more. But in any case, I just loved the whole series. I think it’s an important podcast for many people to listen to. I have been recommending it to friends and acquaintances who are also be interested in learning something more about faith and transcendent beliefs in society.

It is like having a faith-based course by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich. He takes a fascinating object from a museum collection, gives it context and then expands to how it is an expression of how people worship and think of their communities.
