Description
The Miami Dolphins came off their bye week feeling great about the changes they had made heading into today’s game against the Colts at Indianapolis. For the first 29:44 of the first half, things were looking real good. Then it all fell apart in a devastating 16-10 loss that dropped them to 2-4, and they lost another QB to injury. Coming off their bye week and their 1st win since opening day, the Dolphins looked good early, with Tyler Huntley leading the offense on two scoring drives, including a 10-yard TD pass to Tight End Jonnu Smith. The Dolphins defense dominated the first half until the final :16, when a breakdown in the secondary gave Michael Pittman Jr a 33-yard gift to set up Matt Gay’s 52-yard field goal as time expired to make it 10-3. Then things got a lot worse for Miami. Raheem Mostert (11 car, 50 yds) fumbled the ball on the opening drive of the 2nd half, giving the Colts the ball at the Miami 46. With star RB Jonathan Taylor still out, Tyler Goodson (14 car, 51 yds) scored his first NFL TD from seven yards out to tie the game at ten. On the Dolphins next drive, Huntley suffered a shoulder injury. Enter Tim Boyle, the 4th QB to play for the ‘Phjns this season. On Boyle’s first drive, FB Alec Ingold fumbled, giving the Colts the ball again. Miami’s D forced a punt, and on the Colts’ next drive, they stopped the Colts inside the five yard-line, forcing Gay’s 22-yard FG that gave them their 1st lead. The Dolphins offense drove down the field before Ingold was stuffed on 3rd & 1. Sanders missed from 54 yards, and the Colts kept the lead. On the Colts’ next drive, Gay’s third field goal of the game- from 38 yards out- made it 16-10. Boyle led the Dolphins on a 9-play drive before turning the ball over on downs with under a minute left to end the game. Huntley finished 7-13 for 87 yards and a TD. Boyle was 8-13 for 74 yards. Devon A’Chane ran for 77 yards on 15 carries, for Miami. They ran for 188 yards on the day. Smith led Miami with nine catches for 76 yards and the touchdown. Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle were held to one catch each, and just 24 total yards, as Miami continues to struggle getting the ball into the hands of their playmakers. Richardson- back after missing two-plus games with a hip injury- went 10-24 for 129 yards and no TD’s. The Dolphins D held the Colts (4-3) to 284 total yards and one TD, but they couldn’t keep them off the scoreboard late. The Dolphins (2-4) are hoping that QB1 Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) will return to practice this week, and play next Sunday at home against the Arizona Cardinals.
