So far, a great critique of how the book got twisted
I’ve only listened to one episode but so far, this is a compelling yet self-aware critique of how Lolita got twisted into a perverse retelling in our culture. I actually like the Lyne movie adaptation but how did we romanticize a story about abuse? Why does pop culture find the idea of a manipulative 12 year old interesting? I want to clarify, in the book Dolores Haze is very clearly an abused child who is doing what she needs to to survive - but how did that story get turned into one about a savvy little girl using her wiles to get what she wants? I’m eager to keep listening and see what the podcast uncovers.
