“I’m a Catholic convert from Calvinism and I love this podcast. I would say it is sort of the Catholic equivalent of the Steve Deace show. I appreciate the political insights from a Catholic perspective. It is very refreshing. So here’s the reason I didn’t give it five stars: they seem to be overtly critical of Pope Francis. Now I want to say that I’m still very much new to the faith, so I have much to learn about the basics of the faith. One of the reasons I was convinced of the faith is that I realized the need for an earthly prime minister of God for the church, someone who has the final say when the church is split on important and controversial matters of the faith. Protestantism doesn’t have that. I also realize that the Pope only exercises infallibility in a very specific context, and that otherwise he can err just as much as I can. With that said, if I understand correctly, official church teaching says we are to honor the Pope even when he says something that appears to be erroneous at least on the surface, and even when it turns out to be genuinely false. So my question is this: am I understanding things incorrectly or is the Loopcast team failing to honor the chair of St. Peter as occupied by Pope Francis? I don’t really have an answer just yet, but it does rub me the wrong way as a convert when the team expresses seemingly great distress over what Pope Francis says or doesn’t say at any given moment. One recent example is the talk he gave on how different religions are a way to God like different languages. Are we being too critical of what he is saying? Can we be too critical of the Pope when he’s not exercising his charism of infallibility? Like I said, I don’t know, but my initial desire was to try my best to understand what the Holy See meant and avoid as much as possible being critical of him.”
