Audio theater at its finest. The history of Martin Luther is captivating in itself, and this production seems to have done it justice. Luther stands at the edge of human striving and looks over the edge into an abyss that exists between every man and the Creator. Luther wonders, how can he ever be good enough to merit acceptance? This is a story which finds its place in our time. Relevant, to a culture that seeks relief of manifold guilts. A culture that will willingly burn itself to the ground in penance as a means of escape. Luther knew such turmoil, and was even thought to be mad by some In this time of political unrest and social turmoil, it is difficult to raise oneself to be concerned with eternal truths that transcend our immediate difficulties. In such times past, theater has been essential as a means of communicating ideas to a weary mind that wouldn’t otherwise allow itself to dwell on such thoughts. Which episode deals with his horrific, even for the time, anti-Semitism? How about how he called for the burning of books himself (Jewish holy texts.) He’s responsible for countless deaths, and, sure, some great ideas about evolving Christianity. Fick dich Arschloch.
