“Hi Abbie! Love your podcasts. I am never one to call people out on things I disagree with, but there was a mistake in reference to scripture you made in episode 74 in reference to our dear Lord, and I can honestly say if it was me I would hope I would be corrected so please know this is from a place of love for our Savior and not a petty attack on you. You accidentally combined two Bible passages and made a funny comment along the lines of “oops Jesus didn’t pay taxes yikes I guess He’s perfect so that’s okay I suppose?” type of comment and I just wanted to point out that He did pay taxes to the Romans…when questioned by the Pharisees about paying taxes, He told them to look at a coin. He points out that Caesar’s face is on it, so his taxes are owed to him (Mark 12). The story of the disciple pulling out the money from the fish is completely different. That is in reference to temple taxes, which were basically fees collected from adult Jewish men by the temple for its upkeep. You can reference Matthew 17 for more context, but essentially Jesus says the temple is His father’s so He doesn’t technically have to pay this fee, but to keep peace, He has Peter pay His and Peter’s fee with coins fished out of the mouth of a fish. Hope this made sense!”
