Ayyyyoooo back at it with Season 2, Episode 7 of your fave travel podcast. Episode 7 features Nicole who was born and raised in Baltimore and is happily still living in Charm City. She loves living close to family and friends and paying affordable rent so she can travel more! Nicole works in software sales (from home) and has two dogs that love to interrupt her calls. When Nicole was in college, she studied abroad, and fell in love with getting lost in new cities. She’ll never get sick of trying new foods, taking walking tours, and talking to new people. Every time Nicole travels somewhere new, she learn something new about humans and about herself. Nicole recently returned from an eye-opening trip to Cuba explore art and learn more about the culture, and found so much more. Nicole was so pleasantly surprised to see how happy people are - they focus on the necessities and try to enjoy life in any way they can, often much more simply than we do here in the US. Cubans place such an emphasis on connections and community, and this can also be seen in how important dance is to the culture! Nicole also found that it helped her to understand her own family’s culture a bit more too - her mom and her grandparents came here from Soviet Ukraine, so seeing a communist country like Cuba helped Nicole to realize what life could have been like for her own family before they moved. Seeing the food rations, how little was available in terms of things like medical supplies, paper products, toiletries, and learning that the govt can shut down the internet whenever they want really drove home to Nicole how lucky she is to live in the US.
