Description
Welcome to our first film discussion of the month where we are covering Ari Aster's 2019 folk horror film: Midsommar. With Florence Pugh in the lead, this tale follows a couple at the brink of a breakup who travels to Scandinavia to visit a rural hometown's fabled Swedish mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult. And as always, we ask the question, is this film feminist? Midsommar is available to watch on Amazon Prime (US sub), Netflix (UK), and is widely available to rent on demand. Next week we are covering: A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014, dir. Ana Lily Amirpour) Mentioned media: Screen Rant article (Best and Worst of Midsommar) Video Essay (How Midsommar Brainwashes You) Our socials: @ChickFlixFilmClub on Instagram | webpage @SheSources_ on Instagram | shesources.co @MakingItWomenInFilm on Instagram | womeninfilm.co.uk Chick Flix Film Club is a monthly programme produced by She Sources and Making It: Women in Film.
