Great Work!
I’m a little late to the MASH Matters podcast...and probably the podcast party in general. I’ve been listening to the first season, and I am very impressed! MASH, in my family, now goes back three generations! (Queue the old people jokes!). I was born in 1976, and literally grew up watching MASH with my mom. We watched the final episode of MASH together when it first aired. I know, as young as I was, most of the jokes, as well as the more serious commentary about war, the human condition, etc, went right over my head. But, there is something to be said (in a good way!) for an adult show that can capture and hold the attention of a five year old! Of course, as the series went into syndication, and I was growing up, I would only catch episodes here and there, but still did, whenever I could. The next stage of my fandom started when the DVDs finally came out. I eventually collected all of the seasons, as well as the final episode with special features (cast interviews, blooper reels, etc). Of course, I watched them. At this point, I had a young daughter, and she began to watch them with me. We had a ball memorizing lines, and anticipating them when we re-watched an episode for the zillionth time. We would quiz each other on MASH trivia. Fast forward about 10 years, and my daughter leaves for college. A few days after she left, I realized that she took my MASH DVD collection!!! Not nice, but I had to laugh. Of course, now we both stream the episodes on Hulu. I think we agree on our favorite line in the whole series: Hawkeye’s speech to Frank about not carrying a gun. We both don’t like the episode Dreams. But we both watch the series over, and over, always laughing at the same lines, and feeling heartache at the same times, no matter how often we’ve seen the episode. My daughter was even lucky enough to meet Loretta Swit, when she stopped in Sarasota. I missed her by a week...but my daughter did get an autograph for me! It’s been so great to listen to the stories and memories that I’ve heard so far. In many cases, it gives even more meaning to the episodes I know so well. Can’t wait to hear more! I’m late to the party having just discovered your podcast but I’m enjoying all of the detail and perspective you both provide. I worried that the “inside” information might detract from my enjoyment (magicians never reveal the illusion) but I’m happy to report that it’s only deepened my love for...Read full review »

A companion to a great show that had a complex story arc for the many years and cast changes to the original concept. I love that instead of going episode by episodes, like most show podcast, they explore and examine what makes MASH so watchable, even today. I wish more show podcast might...Read full review »
