“I was a vegan on and off for ten years. I started the diet after dealing with all sorts of unusual and inexplicable health problems (which turned out to be an autoimmune disorder) because I had heard there was “overwhelming evidence” that it was a cure-all. Years later, after being officially diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, my doctor put me on a strict elimination diet which was too strict for me to be able to follow as a vegan, so I started eating some poultry and fish. After two weeks I felt better than I ever had before. I was still really stubborn and decided to go back to being vegan after the diet but found a lot of my symptoms coming back. As it turns out, I have a lot of food sensitivities and a diet consisting of about 90% carbs doesn’t work for me. Regardless, the guilt I felt giving up the vegan diet was immense, even though I felt much better. Thank you so much for drawing attention to this. I can’t wait to listen to hear more!”
