7: What to do after you fail? How to get back up and MOVE ON

Today’s topic is about what do you do after you encounter a failure and how to get back up. I know this topic is pretty general but for the context of this episode I will be applying most of this on weight loss/dieting or working out because that’s what I get asked the most. My new clients always go into their plan 100% saying that they are going to do this perfectly and they aren’t going to fail this time. What I always offer to them is that, oh you will fail but you will learn to get back up. I see a lot of this in my clients, they have lots of commitment with no follow through and lots of quitting. They fall into one or more of the 4 categories: justification, excuses, lack of motivation, and give into false pleasures. You need to find out your pattern and learn to deal with it when you go through the process of failing. Many people use quitting as a justification of failing, because when you put something on pause you feel like you aren’t failing or at least NOT YET because you haven’t gone through it so how can you fail if you quit now or simply put it on pause, your justification would be I will come back to this when I am ready. Guys, the truth is, you will never be ready. You have to work through the hard stuff, fail and fail many, many times before you get it. It’s like the toddler learns how to walk, do you think they give up after the first time they fail? No, obviously the toddler knows how to walk as an adult but the process of them learning how to walk is by failing, okay that didn’t’ work try again, now that didn’t work try again…it’s about fail and keep getting up is what makes or breaks. Just accept this, because it is the truth. You will fail and for as long as you keep failing, your will gain net results because eventually you learn from your mistakes. If you quit today you will stay the same but in fact, actually worse because you will have lost motivation and hope because you thought you got it this time. You have to expect failures to succeed, you have to learn from your mistakes. Kept doing the same thing, thinking the same thing isn’t going to get you a different result.
