“March reporting for duty! I have literally never touched Apple Podcasts before in my life, but I must heed the sacred call.
My girlfriend and I started listening to Media Club Plus together, and we made it maybe 5 episodes in before I decided I needed to watch HxH for myself. I’ve now watched the entire series (and caught up with the manga) and it has completely changed my personality. It’s all I think about. My friend group has a discord server; me and the friends who have seen the show were talking about it so much that we were banished to a separate HxH channel. I’ve tried to convince them to get matching spider tattoos. I’m unwell. Media Club Plus deserves 5 stars just for introducing me to my new favorite show.
HOWEVER, it would be an injustice to say that was the only reason Media Club Plus deserves 5 stars. This podcast is a joy to listen to. The hosts’ brilliant analysis of the show helps me to see it in new, exciting ways. I’m equally thrilled to hear them say something I’ve thought before as I am to hear a completely new take that hadn’t occurred to me. The deep dives into the soundtrack are especially fun and enlightening as someone who knows nothing about music or scoring. And yet, despite all of this Serious Media Analysis, MC never fails to be uproariously funny. I go in to every new episode knowing I’m going to have a good time.
Do yourself a favor and listen to this podcast. You absolutely will not regret it.
PS: Sylvie, I’ve seen on Twitter that you visit Portland from time to time. If you’re ever back in town, can we hang out at the worker owned, queer, commie bar near my house and talk about the Phantom Troupe PLEASE every moment I am not talking about the Phantom Troupe is a waste”
