Forgiveness is all about erasing the past completely and not keeping peoples wrong doing in the back of your head so you can confront them with it later on. People may say they forgive but in there heart, its bitter. Forgiveness is out of love, nothing else. Gods love is more then our minds can comprehend, which is exactly why Jesus tells us to live in the spirit. When you live in the Spirit, your body will line up to the word of God.
