MID
Actual Gen Xers please
Was initially very excited by this podcast - conceived and hosted by Gen Xers, the excluded, underrepresented, quietly resistant generation. But so far, your guest choices have often fallen short, putting forward millennials or millennial/cusp Gen Xers who really don’t represent those born 1965-1979, aged 45-59. This invites the conclusion that either it was too hard to find notable Australian Gen Xers, interesting Gen X women don’t exist, or that they are so underground not even you could find them! The fact that so many of these reviews are from much younger women is a solid clue! Make no mistake. Based on population data, most Australian Gen X women are in their early 50s, so largely at the back end of the menopausal transition. Please try harder to represent us. Interviews with peri menopausal millennials with young children is off the mark, and undermines what you set out to do. They may be easier to find, but that’s because generationally, they are more confident and overt and possibly self promoting. Finding suitable Gen X guests might be more like tracking a rare breed. Please learn our tracks and find us! Someone who has watched their parent decline into dementia, someone who has separated (not all Gen Xers married - big weddings was a millennial thing) and lost financial security (a HUGE issue for X women), someone who struggled with separation and divided families, someone who has cared for a teenager through a mental health crisis, someone who has consciously estranged from a toxic family, someone who experienced workplace discrimination because of having a family BEFORE family friendly policies, someone who has agitated for change despite personal challenges, someone who has sacrificed and completely changed careers from the path of least resistance to purpose-led, someone who has experienced significant loss including the loss of all their elders (becoming an adult orphan) - someone who has experienced these kind of adversities and is moving through it quietly and persistently… these are X stories. If it’s on Insta, it’s probably not an X story!

There is so much to love about this podcast and the host is just one of them. I love the way she interviews her guests, her insight and her restraint. It’s a pleasure to listen to, it warms my soul, it makes me cry, laugh and stays with me long after the episode has ended.
