The New (Perry-class) FFG; The “Low” of The “High/Low” Mix
Stalin said something about quantity had a quality of its own. Remember they’re the Low Part of High/Low Mix - to free up the Burkes from non-carrier BG missions. The Perry-class FFG was the “VW bug of warships” - they could do everything, they just could do anything very well. Make them for a medium/low threat environment - mission of the Perry-class FFG was to escort/defend a convoy to Europe/Asia. Don’t make them to be part of a carrier battle group - they weren’t designed for it; that’s the job for the Burke-class DDG. Fire any admiral carrier BG commander that tries to do it. Make it out of steel - aluminum burns when it takes a missile hit; remember the Stark & Sheffield - it’s criminal to make a warship out of aluminum as no ship can outrun a missile. That’s why the Burke’s are all steel. Make them all (or at least a couple) with thick steel hulls - when they get rammed by Russian/PRC ships while conducting freedom of navigation operations.
