Nicole's Active Duty Birth Story: OCONUS Delivery in Japan, Single Parenthood, and Postpartum Support through the Army

In today’s episode we’ll be hearing from Nicole, who was on Active Duty in the Army the she had her son. Nicole shares one birth story, which took place in the military hospital in Okinawa Japan. She also dives into her experience of being pregnant and giving birth as a single parent, and the resources she sought out and relied upon after birth to make sure that she had the support she needed, including care from a doula and a postpartum PT group provided through the Army. During our conversation Nicole touches on a previous abortion and how that experience influenced the choices she made during her pregnancy with her son, and she also discusses some healthcare issues that are common for women of color during pregnancy.
