“I know that comes off as ridiculous hyperbole but the sentiment is true. I discovered youtube & became a fan of Schmoes Know in 2012 because of my rabid love of film and tv. The spring & winter of 2014 was the worst time of my life and I have had some very harsh terrible experiences in my life, but this was the year I lost my mother to cancer, my sister to a preventable heart attack, and the home I lived in my entire life! I wasn’t just contemplating suicide, I was planning to do it. Long story short I had tried years earlier because of chronic illness and thankfully failed. I seriously hold Mark & Kristian & the community that solidified around Schmoes Know and the Schmoedown as keeping my spirits and soul up when things were hopeless. I remember tweeting out simply “My mom & sister are dead” just to wrap my head around it and believe it or not Kristian Harloff, the creator of the league himself, tweeted back with a simple condolence that I know he doesn’t remember, BUT that simple gesture, among others, filled me with hope! Hope I desperately needed! Finding out there were others out there that loved film and trivia like me made me feel less alone and today I have wonderful friends in my life because of youtube and shows like the Schmoedown. If you are merely curious as to why a silly kayfabe film trivia show can mean so much, this is merely 1 of a myriad of reasons! Cheers!”
