A clear case of mistaken identity
Not of Crosley Green, who is obviously guilty of the murder for which he was convicted, but the podcast itself. It misidentifies itself as a true crime investigation into a racially motivated wrongful conviction. In actuality, this is one of those great cult exposes, like Twin Flames. It’s a cautionary tale about the perils of fanaticism, as examined through a dangerous and violent cult leader who manipulates the frailties of willfully ignorant followers to commit heinous acts. In this case specifically, the frailties in question are white guilt and a penchant for grandiosity in a rabid and gullible dupe named Erin Moriarty. I feel for her, but more for poor Chip, the true victim.
